Allan's Blood Work

So yesterday Allan went back to the pediatrician to be weighed. Unfortunately he didn’t gain any weigh. Actually, he lost an ounce. So now my little guy is weighing in at 9 pounds 10 ounces. So the doctor said he needed to have blood work done immediately. He classified my son as a “failure to thrive” case. Sounds like a real nice diagnosis to tell a mother, right? So the nurse put a bag around Allan’s peepee to get a pee sample and we went on our way to Cy Fair hospital. The nice thing was that my doctor put a stat order on us so people moved us in and out fairly quick. The lady who was taking his blood said he was too old to have his heel pricked and that they were going to have to draw blood from his arm. The first lady stuck him with a needle and tried to get blood, but come to find out it wasn’t coming out quick enough because she didn’t get the vein right. So another lady comes in and does it all over again. At least she gets it this time. But all awhile Allan is crying. I felt so bad for my little man. I just wanted to take him home and hold him and get him away from all those doctors and nurses. So when we finally left the hospital we had to stop back at the pediatrician so that they could get his pee sample. They did that and ran the test. The nurse came back telling me that every thing was perfect. That was good news and also ruled out and problems with his liver. So she sent me home and told me she would call once they had the blood work results. Just a couple of hours after I got home the nurse called. She told me the blood work all came back normal. She said everything seems perfect about him, except for his weight. She told me the doctor was going to “think things over” and call me sometime today to discuss things. She said he may want to think about sending him to a specialist. So that’s where we stand now. They can’t say anything is wrong with him besides the fact that his metabolism being super fast. He eats like a pig, so who knows. Kirk and I think his weight will catch up to him soon. I’m just glad to hear that everything is perfect and healthy with him.

Allan is Four Months Old!

Allan turned 4 months old yesterday! He went to have his 4 month check up and get 4 shots-2 in each thigh. That wasn’t the worst part of the visit. Allan’s not putting on enough weight. Right now he only weighs 9 pounds and 11 ounces. He should be around 13 pounds. They think that they weighed him wrong at his last visit. They thought he was 11 pounds then, but now they are saying no way. He couldn’t have gained 4 pounds and then lost it all. But the doctor does think he may have lost 1 pound between last visit and yesterday. So now for a weeks he’s gonna get supplements of formula with his breast milk to see if that will put some pounds on him. Other than that, he’s perfect! He’s super long – 24¼ . The doctor’s not too worried. He thinks Allan might just be a little guy with a really fast metabolism. (That’s how his daddy was) Hopefully my little dude puts on some ounces this week. If he doesn’t or if he loses, then the doctor is gonna want to do some lab work to make sure all is ok with him. My bet is he’s fine. I think he just has his daddy’s fast metabolism…something us girls pray for and don’t get.

Tummy Time

Here's Allan doing his "tummy time." He now "rolls" over and you get to see it in the video. It's more of an accident and he ends up on his back, but I've been told that's how they start rolling over.

My little man is growing up way too fast...

Lunch with Meema & Papa

Allan got to visit his Meema for lunch today. His Papa was there too. He had a good time…once he warmed up to them. He did show off his classic bottom lip. I still need to get a picture of that, or better yet a video. He sure knows how to stick it out far and all we can do is laugh at him. It’s too cute looking.

The Coolest Toy!

Why is it that the “toys” kids love the most are the things that were not bought for them? Some kids get a kick out of an empty box while others could play with paper all day. As for my son, he’s currently into water bottles. His favorite is when they are fresh out of the frig and they still have condensation on them.

Great Grandma & Grandpa

Allan went to visit his great grandparents today. He hasn’t seen them since he was about a week old. He had a good time over there! Grandma and Grandpa fed me a yummy sandwich. Allan really took to his Great Grandma. He gave her lots of smiles and even some cute giggles. Great Grandpa walked Allan around the house and showed him some things. He stay very interested…until he decided he was getting hungry. That’s about the only time you hear the full effects of Allan’s lungs…when he’s hungry. We’ll definitely have to go visit again soon! Allan sure does love his Great Grandparents!

The Hamilton Family

My sister, Aimee, took some family pictures of us back in December. Isn't the Hamilton family a cute bunch?

We Finally Got Out of the House!

This weekend Allan had his first overnight visit, but not without his mommy and daddy, of course. We loaded up everyone. And I mean everyone…3 dogs, a baby, and two adults! Allan had a good time with his Mimi and Papa. Mimi even got to feed him one of his many meals. Kirk and I had a good time too. It sure was nice to get away and hang out with my family. We got to stay with Aimee and Dorian. Dorian made us all a yummy dinner Friday night. We will definitely have to do it again soon, especially when it gets warmer so Allan can play in the pool!

Aren’t we just the cutest family?!?!!?

Finally A Blog For My Baby!

It’s taken me a while, but I’ve finally done it! I finally got my blog about Allan set up and ready to go. It’s only taken me 15 weeks today, but who's counting. A lot has already happened with Allan since he’s been born. He’s had 4 holidays – Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. (If you ask me, I think Halloween is going to be his favorite holiday…) Allan’s been smiling since Thanksgiving Day. Watching him smile is the best thing in the world. Kirk and I could sit all day and just watch him. He’s “talking” a lot more now and he has lots to say. One of the coolest things was watching him first learn to grab something. He hasn’t quite got it down yet, but he’s working on it. Cold water bottles are his favorite.

A couple of weeks ago Allan got baptized. For the most part he was really good during the service. At least he didn’t scream his head off when he got water poured on him.
Last week he went to the Zoo for the first time. He slept through most of it, but that’s OK because there will be more visits to the zoo that he’ll enjoy. One of the best milestones that have happened so far is Allan’s sleeping patterns. He goes down for the night between 9 and 10 o’clock at night and sleeps somewhere between 8 to 12 hours straight! Most of the time I have to wake him up in the mornings to feed him. A lot of mothers have told me that I’m one of the lucky few to have a child sleep through the night so early on. I am definitely enjoying the solid sleep I get. It seems like any day now he’ll be sitting up on his own. He’s getting too big too fast. I want him to stay my tiny baby longer!

Check back often. I’ll be updating Allan’s blog as much as I can and there will be tons of pictures to go along with it!
